The problem
Young Americans are increasingly losing connection to our military. We need for them to know about those serving today, and about the very high cost of our freedom.
Even in the best of school curriculums, the lessons of history can be reduced to dates, places, famous people, and events. But the sacrifices made to purchase our freedoms are made by real people with real families…who have real stories.
The Solution
We need you to help us bring those stories to the next generation—to all who have inherited the benefits of freedom.
Through our Veteran Organizations Ally Program, we can work together to achieve this goal.
The Grateful Nation Project creates the Hero Cards and connected online biographies. That’s only half of the equation! To accomplish the mission, we need to get these stories into students’ hands.
Because you are already known and respected in your community, and are already making visits to your local schools, you’re uniquely qualified to make the connection!
How it works
Your American Legion Post, Legion Auxiliary, VFW Post, VVA chapter, etc. likely already participates in Veterans Day or Memorial Day events in your local schools. Whether in the classroom or in all-school assemblies, sharing your personal story is a powerful way to connect military service to a real human being in the minds of young Americans.
Adding the stories of those who gave “the last full measure of devotion”—by handing a Hero Card to each student—helps them better understand the real, everyday people who secure and preserve our freedom.
Whether in schools, as parade handouts, or at community events—let’s work together to bring these stories to young Americans.
The cost of each Hero Cards is just 76¢. In the following form, you can order any number of cards to match the size of your event. We’ll ship you the Hero Cards and email an invoice to cover the cost of producing the cards.
